Having an eye for fashion and the creative skills in design, I decided to major in apparel design. Being a fashion designer has pushed me to think outside the box. I felt excited and nervous to design a final garment for this year's Runway 2020: Euphoria. Unfortunately, it was canceled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. When I first heard the news, I was sad because I felt like I had missed the opportunity to present my creative garment. A digital fashion show format was now our second alternative. I thought it was a good idea because it still allowed the junior and senior designers to present their designs using a different platform. With that being said my partner, Edgar, and I created our design collection called “Maria Clara Especial” which means an elegant formal outfit for women. Being Filipino and Edgar being Spanish, Maria Clara was the best element to create our design because it tied in with both of our cultures. Furthermore, I decided to incorporate my design ideas as ethnic. Our model, Giovana “Gigi” Giscome, had a particular interest in diversifying the perceptions of beauty in the fashion industry regardless of one's ethnicity, identity, and sexuality.
